About Us – Purchasing a Cabin

Welcome to Glass Club Lake!

GLASS CLUB LAKE is one of the best kept secrets in Texas!  We are a private lake and gated residential community, tucked inside of the tall piney woods of east Texas.  We are located on Hwy. 67, just east of Omaha, Texas.

Glass Club Lake features 160.3 acres of land. The lake itself, is spring fed, covers approximately surface 43 acres, and is 3/4 mile long, 1/3 mile wide (at its widest point). The lake and the surrounding property is owned by “The Club” (Glass Club Lake, Inc.).

It is a wonderful place to live with a beautiful spring-fed lake, surrounded by a forest with walking trails.  Many of our members live at the lake full-time, while others come for the summers to relax, fish or enjoy watercraft activities.  Our members are comprised of families, couples, single residents, and retiree’s, who enjoy a variety of interests, and come together for special events and club activities.  Other club amenities include a climate controlled clubhouse, a secured fitness facility, and a newly constructed dam and spillway.

Glass Club Lake, Inc., is a private lake for members only.  Commercial activities at the lake are strictly prohibited.

Purchasing a Cabin

Before potential buyers can close on a cabin, they must first go through the complete application process, including an in-person interview with the Membership Chairman, and their Committee.  The process includes a written application, full background check and credit check, references and follow up calls, followed by an in-person interview.  Once completed, the Membership Committee will then recommend the new potential member(s) to the Board of Directors, for their approval, at the next scheduled Board Meeting.

The entire process may take up to 30-40 days, therefore your patience is appreciated.  Feel free to ask as many questions as you feel necessary during your interview.  We want everyone to be comfortable with their choice in becoming a member.  To start the membership process, click here to request a membership application.

GCL History

Glass Club Lake, Inc.

The Club was established in 1933 as a Texas Corporation. It consists of no more than 100 shareholders, each of which owns one share in the entire property. At the present time, there are 74 shareholder lots on the lake.  By purchasing a lot with a share of stock, or a cabin with a share of stock, the shareholder gains an equal interest in all the lands and lake through this stock ownership.

In May of 1933, Thomas Bain of Texarkana signed over the water rights to a flowing spring to the newly incorporated Glass Club Lake. The agreement “extended privileges to any stockholder to beautify and make said spring more attractive, to care for and do such improvements as necessary”. The Glass Club Springs were enclosed by a large semicircular stone wall. Reportedly, it was still in use for piping fresh water to cabins as late as 1977. Today, several underground springs continue to feed into the lake.

Glass Club Lake, Inc., is managed by a Board of Directors, which are elected by the shareholders, at the clubs annual meeting.  Board Members serve three year terms and have the responsibility to manage the interests of the Shareholders, and work to maintain compliance with the applicable state and federal laws.  New Board members are elected each year to replace those comming off of their term.  The Board values the opinion of all members, and encourages them to serve on a variety of committees designed to enhance life at the lake.
